Comparing the clinical Effects of one-time and multiple Root Canal Treatments on Patients with periapical Periodontitis
Objective To compare the effectiveness and safety of one-time and multiple root canal treatments in patients with periapical periodontitis, and provide clinical guidance for their treatment. Methods A total of 106 patients with periapical periodontitis who received treatment at the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanyang Medical College from May 2021 to April 2022 were selected. They were randomly divided into study group(n=53,one-time root canal treatment)and control group(n=53,multiple root canal treatments)using a random number table method. The clinical efficacy, surgical related indicators, periapical index(PAI),degree of pain, and complications of the two groups were compared. Results The treatment effectiveness rate of the study group(96.23%)was higher than that of the control group(83.02%),and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05);The study group had shorter surgical time and lower surgical costs compared to the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05);The PAI index of the study group was lower than that of the control group at 1 week,6 weeks, and 12 weeks after surgery, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05);After treatment, the scores of occlusal pain and spontaneous pain decreased in both groups, and the scores in the study group were lower than those in the control group, with statistical significance(P<0.05);The incidence of complications in the study group(1.89%)was lower than that in the control group(15.09%),and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion The use of one-time root canal therapy in patients with periapical periodontitis can improve clinical efficacy, shorten surgical time and reduce surgical costs, improve PAI index and pain level, and reduce the occurrence of complications.
