The analysis of lateral Nasopharyngeal imaging parameters in the diagnosis of pediatric adenoid hypertrophy
Objective To analyze the value of lateral nasopharyngeal radiograph measurement parameters in the diagnosis of adenoid hypertrophy in children.Methods 76 children with adenoid hypertrophy admitted to Henan Children's Hospital from October 2022 to October 2023 were selected as the case group,and another 76 healthy children were included as the control group.All participants underwent lateral nasopharyngeal radiography.The parameters of the lateral nasopharyngeal radiographs of the two groups were compared,including the ratio of adenoid thickness to nasopharyngeal airway width(A/N),the ratio of free nasopharyngeal airway to tracheal airway(NS/TS),the ratio of mandibular ascending height to total anterior facial height(Ar-Go/N-Me),the distance from the posterior nasal spine to the pharyngeal apex(PNS-R),the distance from the posterior nasal spine to the upper pharyngeal wall(PNS-UPW),the distance from the posterior soft palate to the posterior pharyngeal wall(SPP-SPPW),the angle between the long axis of the upper central incisor and the long axis of the lower central incisor(∠ UI-LI),the angle between the long axis of the upper central incisor and the line connecting the upper alveolar point(∠ UI-NA),and the angle between the long axis of the lower central incisor and the line connecting the lower alveolar point(∠ LI-NB).The results of nasal endoscopy were used as the gold standard to calculate the diagnostic efficacy of lateral nasopharyngeal radiographs.Results The detection values of A/N,NS/TS,Ar-Go/N-Me,PNS-R,PNS-UPW,SPP-SPPW,∠UI-LI,∠UI-NA,∠LI-NB in the case group were all higher than those in the control group,and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05);the number of positive and negative diagnoses by nasal endoscopy were 76 and 0,respectively,and the number of positive and negative cases by lateral nasopharyngeal radiographs were 75 and 1,respectively,with the diagnostic accuracy and sensitivity of lateral nasopharyngeal radiographs both being 98.68%.Conclusion The measurement parameters of lateral nasopharyngeal radiographs in children(A/N,NS/TS,Ar-Go/N-Me,PNS-R,PNS-UPW,SPP-SPPW,∠ UI-LI,∠ UI-NA,∠ LI-NB)can be used as auxiliary diagnostic criteria for adenoid hypertrophy in children.
