Characterization of food intolerance-specific IgG antibody test in patients with recurrent oral ulcers
Objective To analyze the results of food intolerance-specific immunoglobulin G(IgG)antibody detection characteristics in patients with recurrent oral ulcers(ROU),with a view to providing a basis for the diagnosis and treatment of food intolerance in patients with ROU.Methods A retrospective analysis was employed to identify 1 975 ROU patients who had attended outpatient clinics at Zhengzhou University First Affiliated Hospital between January 2020 and December 2023.This process involved the collection of general data on the patients, the statistical analysis of the results of their food intolerance-specific IgG antibody tests, and the comparison of the antibody test results for food intolerance in patients of different ages and genders. Results The five foods with the highest serum IgG positivity were egg(47.34%),milk(31.14%),wheat(21.87%),soybeans(21.22%),and tomatoes(10.38%),with lower serum IgG positivity in beef(0.46%),pork(0.56%),chicken(1.37%),and shrimp(1.82%).The positive intolerance rate of three foods, cod, egg, and milk, was significantly higher in female subjects than in males. This difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).The differences in the positive rates of intolerance to eight foods, namely chicken, cod, egg, mushroom, milk, shrimp, soybean, and wheat, among patients of different ages were statistically significant(P<0.05).The positive rates of intolerance to four foods, namely egg, milk, soybean, and wheat, were higher in the immature group than in the middle-aged and elderly groups.Conversely, those of shrimp and mushrooms were lower than those in the middle-aged and elderly groups. The positive rates of intolerance to chicken were significantly higher than those of the young and middle-aged groups, and the positive rates of intolerance to cod were significantly higher than those of the elderly group. These differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).The intolerance positive rates of chicken, cod, egg, mushroom, milk, shrimp, soybean, and wheat were statistically significantly different between the young and middle-aged group, the elderly group, and the aged and elderly groups. The intolerance positive rates of shrimp and mushrooms were lower in the aged and elderly groups than in the middle-aged and elderly groups. The intolerance positive rate of chicken was significantly higher in the young and middle-aged group than in the aged and elderly group, and the intolerance positive rate of cod was significantly higher in the elderly group than in the aged and elderly group. Conclusion The probability of food intolerance is high in ROU patients, and the gender and age of the patients are related to the occurrence of food intolerance. The early detection of food serum-specific IgG antibodies in ROU patients allows for the timely identification of intolerant foods, thereby enabling dietary adjustments to be made in order to avoid foodborne immune responses.
