Analysis of the Pathological Diagnostic Value of Frozen Sections and Paraffin Sections for Thyroid Diseases
Objective To analyze the pathological diagnostic value of frozen sections and paraffin sections for thyroid diseases. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 70 cases of thyroid diseases treated at Xuchang Hospital from January 2021 to January 2022.All patients underwent routine paraffin section examination and frozen section examination. The results of the paraffin section examination were used as the gold standard to analyze the sensitivity and specificity of frozen section pathological examination for benign and malignant thyroid diseases. The accuracy, misdiagnosis rate, delayed diagnosis rate, time required for diagnosis, and detection rate of different types of thyroid diseases were compared between the two examination methods. Results The sensitivity[91.67%(22/24)],specificity[97.83%(45/46)],accuracy[95.71%(67/70)],and delayed diagnosis rate[2.86%(2/70)]of frozen section diagnosis for benign and malignant thyroid diseases showed no statistically significant difference compared to the accuracy, misdiagnosis rate, and delayed diagnosis rate of paraffin section diagnosis(P>0.05).The time required for frozen section examination was shorter than that for paraffin section, with a statistically significant difference(P<0.05).There was no statistically significant difference in the detection rate of different types of thyroid diseases between frozen sections and paraffin sections(P>0.05).Conclusion Frozen sections have similar diagnostic efficacy to paraffin sections, with the advantage of shorter diagnostic time, making them convenient and efficient with good pathological diagnostic value.
