The Role of PDCA Cycle Management in Improving Work Quality,Compliance, and Awareness in the Sterilization Supply Center
Objective To explore the impact of implementing the PDCA cycle management model on work quality, operational compliance, and awareness among staff in the sterilization supply center. Methods In January 2023,the PDCA cycle management model was implemented in the sterilization supply center of The First Affiliated Hospital of Nanyang Medical College.A total of 20 staff members who had not changed their work positions from January 2022 to July 2024 were selected. They were divided into two groups based on whether they implemented PDCA:the group without PDCA implementation and the group with PDCA implementation. For the period from January 2022 to December 2022,80 random disinfection samples were collected as the control group, while 80 random disinfection samples were collected from January 2023 to July 2024 during the PDCA implementation period as the observation group.Differences in work quality, compliance, and awareness between the conventional management mode and the PDCA cycle management mode in the sterilization supply center were evaluated. Results The observation group showed higher sterilization qualification rates, hand hygiene compliance, disinfection compliance for medical instruments, and packaging qualifications compared to the control group, with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).The operational compliance in the staff with PDCA implementation(90.00%)was significantly higher than that in the staff without PDCA implementation(50.00%),with a statistically significant difference(P<0.05).The service awareness scores, safety awareness scores, and error prevention awareness scores in the staff with PDCA implementation were significantly higher than those in the staff without PDCA implementation(P<0.05).Conclusion Implementing the PDCA cycle management model in the sterilization supply center helps improve work quality and positively influences staff operational compliance and awareness.
