Mechanism and Effectiveness of Empathy Rhetoric in China's Foreign Aid Discourse
The empathy rhetoric is one of the most important ways to promote international com-munication.China's foreign aid discourse reflects distinct imprints of empathy rhetoric,which carries out the empathy logic of cognitive empathy,affective empathy,and conative empathy,and experiences the transition from cultural identification to concept identification prior to sentimental identification.It is found that there is no obvious consistency of empathy level between the audi-ence and the rhetorician.Instead,the sentiment trend of the audience fluctuates periodically in the face of continuous high level of empathy from the rhetorician.Influenced by the international dis-course game and"pan-media"trend,the identities of the donor and recipient,as rhetorician and audi-ence,demonstrate complex diversity,leading to the change of effectiveness of empathy.In the foreign aid discourse,the construction of a discourse system that internalizes the mechanism of empathy rhetoric is the key to realizing external recognition and enhancing the effect of aid.
