A Preliminary Study on the Classification of Four Species of Chinese Opisthotropis Based on Scale Counting
The aim of this study is to provide suggestions for the classification of the genus Ophiopogon.Using the classic classification method of reptile morphology, the scale counting method,as the starting point, includes the number of scales for three traits:abdominal scale, caudal scale, and abdominal scale+caudal scale.Compare the difference coefficients and independent sample T-test.And based on bioecological data,a discussion is conducted on the classification of four species of snakes in the genus Ophiopogon in China. The results showed that there were significant differences in the data of the ventral scale, caudal scale, and ventral scale+caudal scale between the horizontally striped hind winged snake and the other three species. There is a significant difference in scale counting between Opisthotropis kuatunensis and Opisthotropis latouchii, which is different from the conclusion drawn by molecular systematics; The difference between Opisthotropis kuatunensis and Opisthotropis latouchii is relatively small, while the difference between Opisthotropis maxwelli and Opisthotropis latouchii is smaller. Therefore,it can be concluded that the horizontal striped back winged snake should not belong to the Opistotropis genus and should belong to the Trimerodytes genus.Suggest renaming the Latin name to Trimerodytes baltetus, also known as the horizontal striped Huayou snake.
