Cost and Benefit Analysis of Using Chinese Herbal Medicine to Prevent and Treat Bovine Respiratory Disease Syndrome in Cattle Farms
Bovine respiratory disease complex(BRDC)is a highly prevalent infectious disease in beef cattle farms caused by multiple pathogens,with respiratory infections as the characteristic feature.The prevention and treatment of BRDC are challenging.A kind of way using Chinese herbal compound to prevent and treat BRDC was developed by our team,and this method have got good clinical effect.A cost-benefit analysis(CBA)was conducted based on the production performance and management data of 100 experimental beef cattle in the research project.The cost inputs and benefits of Chinese herbal medicine in the prevention and treatment of BRDC were analyzed.The results suggest that the total cost of Chinese herbal medicine in the prevention and treatment of BRDC was approximately 8 243.42 yuan,of which the cost of Chinese herbal medicine was 5 807.2 yuan,accounting for 70.45%.The treatment cost for infected cattle was only 5.78%.The total benefits of Chinese herbal medicine in the prevention and treatment of BRDC were 108 495 yuan,with a benefit-cost ratio(BCR)of 13.16 and a net benefit of 100 251.58 yuan.Conclusion:The newly developed Chinese herbal compound for the prevention and treatment of bovine respiratory disease syndrome is effective and feasible,which can improve the economic benefits of the cattle farm.
