Epidemiological Investigation and Analysis of Canine Distemper in Domestic Dogs in Nanchong City
To better understand the characteristics and epidemic regularity of canine distemper(CD)in Nanchong City,as well as to provide data support for disease prevention and control.In this study,4 425 dogs'medical records fromNorth Sichuan Animal Hospital and Mingchong Animal Hospital,were statistically analyzed over the last four years(42 months).The results revealed that the incidence of CD in dogs was 1.94%.CD incidence was significantly influenced by age(P<0.01),with puppies having the highest rate(3.17%).Sex affects the incidence of CD in dogs,but the difference is not statistically significant(P= 0.235).The incidence of CD varies significantly depending on breed and body shape.Mixed-breed dogs(3.61%)are significantly more prevalent than purebred dogs(1.65%)(P=0.001),and large dogs outnumber small dogs(P<0.01).The incidence of CD varied by season,with spring being significantly higher than summer,autumn,and winter(P=0.016).The incidence of CD in immunized dogs(0.96%)was significantly lower than that in non-immunized dogs(2.81%)(P<0.01).There were no cases of sterilized dogs infected with CD,and deworming had no significant effect on CD incidence(P=0.155).The cure rate for CD-ill dogs after hospitalization was 81.25%,with a recovery time of about one week.
