Epidemiological Investigation of Calf Mannheimiosis in Parts of Xinjiang
Bovine Mannheimia haemolytica is an important bacterial pathogen that causes bovine respiratory disease(BRD),which brings huge economic losses to the cattle industry. The main preventive measure of the disease is vaccine immunization, but the pasture often ignores the existence of the disease. In order to investigate the overall prevalence of Mannheimia in Xinjiang, nasal swabs were collected from calves with clinical symptoms of pneumonia in 20 pastures in northern and southern Xinjiang, and molecular biological detection was carried out by PCR.According to the detection, the scientific prevention and control opinions of the disease were provided to the pastures. The results showed that a total of 116 cattle were infected with pneumonia and 96 cattle were infected with Mannheimia haemolytica. The positive rate was 82.76%(96/116).The incidence of Mannheimiosis in calves with pneumonia in southern Xinjiang was 83.3%(50/60).The incidence of mansellosis in calves with pneumonia in northern Xinjiang was 82.14%(46/56).The disease is highly prevalent in 2~8 months old cattle, and the disease has different degrees of occurrence in beef cattle and dairy farms in Xinjiang. The results confirmed that the pastures in Xinjiang were in urgent need of immune prevention and control of the disease.
