The Effect of Different Concentrations of Alkaline Salts on Seed Germination of Semen Vaccariae
In order to study the effect of different concentrations of alkali salt solutions on the germination of Semen Vaccariae seeds, experiments were conducted using different concentrations(20,40,60,80 mmol/L)of sodium bicarbonate and sodium carbonate mixed alkali salt solutions(molar ratio 9∶1)for stress treatment. The results of the measurements of germination potential, germination rate, germination index, simplified vitality index and other indicators of the seeds revealed that the highest germination potential, rate and index of the seeds were observed when the alkaline salt concentration of the mixed solution was 20 mmol/L.As the alkaline salt concentration increased, the germination index and simplified vitality index of seeds decreased accordingly. It can be inferred that Semen Vaccariae has a certain tolerance to low concentration alkaline salt solutions, while high concentration alkaline salt solutions inhibit seed germination.
