Comparison of feeding preference of Harmonia axyridis to different species of aphids and its functional response to predation of 4th instar larvae
The southern Hebei region is home to several varieties of Harmonia axyridis, whose adults and older larvae are important natural enemies of many aphids. In 2022-2023,a general survey was carried out to identify eight varieties of H.axyridis.When comparing the feeding preferences of adult H.axyridis to eight local aphid species, the results showed a clear preference for Rhopalosiphum padi,Aphis glycines,Lipaphis erysimi, and Aphis sophorae, and the average daily predation rate was 45.93%to 61.54%higher than that of Aphis gossypii and Myzus persicae. The study established a functional response model using the Holling type Ⅱ disc equation to determine the predation characteristics of H.axyridis on the main aphid species in the local area. The 3rd and 4th instar larvae were selected for the model. The results showed that the theoretical maximum daily predation on R.um padi,A.glycines, and L.erysimi was 86.5,89.9,and 123.8 larvae at the 3rd instar,197.4,214.9,and 209.3 larvae at the 4th instar, respectively. The results of this study can be used as a reference for biological control of aphids in production.
