Occurrence pattern and damage characteristics of Euzophera pyriella in Gansu Province,China
This study systematically investigated the population dynamics and biological characteristics of Euzophera pyrilla Yang,a new and significant fruit-boring and trunk-boring pest in Gansu Province.Field investigations were conducted in different fruit production regions in Zhangye and Lanzhou of Gansu Province. The results showed that E.pyriella had three generations per year in Zhangye area, with the second generation having the highest adult density. The 3rd to 5th instar larvae overwintered in the cracked bark or lesions on tree trunks and lateral branches,as well as in fruits. In addition to the reported host plants such as apple, pear, apricot, and Chinese date,we discovered that Chaenomeles speciosa is a new suitable host for E.pyriella.This study provides a preliminarily clarification of the main biological characteristics and seasonal dynamics of E.pyriella in Gansu Province, offering a scientific basis for the prevention and control of this pest.
