Geographic origin determination of ruby is important in gemology.This paper summarizes the gemological characteristics,chemical compositions,and spectroscopic characteristics of low-and high-iron ruby from different ruby producing areas and discus-ses research ideas for geographic origin determination.It is proposed to systematically summarize the basic gemological characteristics of rubies,quantitatively analyze the rela-tionship between the ratio of certain spectral peak pairs and the origin of rubies,further study the relationship between the fluorescence characteristics and the origin of rubies,optimize the ratio diagram of various trace elements,and explore the quality fraction ratio relationship of the origin more effectively,so as to provide ideas for the related research and origin identification of rubies.
