Load Characteristics of Hydrostatic Gas Bearings for Free Piston Stirling Generators
The combination of hydrostatic gas bearings and clearance sealing technology is one of the key technologies for free piston Stirling generators, which can enable the power piston to achieve non-contact support during high-frequency reciprocating motion, improving the reliability and service life of the generators. In order to study the load characteristics of the bearings for the generators,a theoretical model is established based on assumption of axial flow. The load capacity of gas bearings under different conditions is calculated by the model.A device is designed and built to test the load capacity of gas bearings under different gas supply pressures, diameters and numbers of throttle orifices. The theoretical model and test results show that the load capacity is positively correlated with gas supply pressure, number and diameter of throttle orifices;the load capacity increases with the decrease of clearance between piston and cylinder.Under certain condition of clearance, the larger the eccentricity, the larger the load capacity. The simulation analysis is in good agreement with test results, showing that the test method is feasible.
