Interpretation of Androgyny in"To the Lighthouse"from the Perspective of Symbolic Matrix
Based on the theoretical foundation of the symbolic matrix in narratology, this paper interprets Woolf's concept of androgyny through the four characters in"To the Lighthouse,"each representing different gender traits and their interrela-tionships.This analysis reveals that androgyny is not merely a creative theory or feminist ideology,as previously studied, but also a philosophical thought,an attitude toward the world, and a deconstruction and reconstruction of binary opposition.
