To study the mechanism of rare earth elements on non-metallic inclusions and microstructure of hypereutectoid steel,a small amount of rare earth Ce element was added to the hypereutectoid steel, and the recovery rate of rare earth Ce element in the steel was ensured by controlling the oxygen and sulfur content through smelting. The effects of rare earth Ce element on the tensile properties,non-metallic inclusions and pearlite interlamellar spacing of the hypereutectoid steel were studied. The results show that the size of non-metallic inclusions combined with rare earth Ce element is about 5 μm.Adding a small amount of rare earth Ce element can modify the morphology of non-metallic inclusions, resulting in changes in the morphology of oxidized inclu-sions.After eliminating the effect of undercooling on the pearlite interlamellar spacing, rare earth Ce element can increase the tensile strength of the hypereutectoid steel by 19 MPa and reduce the surface shrinkage by 2%.The difference in property be-tween the hypereutectoid steel wire rods with and without rare earth addition is mainly related to the size and uniformity of the pearlite interlamellar spacing. The addition of rare earth Ce element can refine and uniform the pearlite interlamellar spacing,im-proving the property uniformity of the hypereutectoid steel wire rods in the same circle.
