Objective This study provides a basis for providing social support and health intervention for patients aged 50 and above who were afflicted with HIV/AIDS.To this end, social network analysis(SNA)was adopted to analyze the characteristics of the social network of such patients who receive community follow-up management in Luzhou. Methods Survey participants were recruited via quota sampling.A social network matrix question-based survey was designed to investigate the relationships within the social support network.Excel 2016 was used to create the relationship matrix,UCINET 6.0 software was used to analyze the overall network characteristics, and NetDraw was applied to draw a 2-mode network diagram. Results The total score of social support received by 280 senior HIV/AIDS patients with community follow-up management in Luzhou was 19.27±7.14.The scores for each dimension were as follows:community,3.13±0.84;hospital,3.08±0.86;family,2.80±1.10;relatives,1.96±1.25;traditional media,1.81±1.30;friends,1.66±1.26;neighbors,1.61±1.27;new media,1.40±1.35;colleagues,1.06±1.20;and social organizations,0.77±1.06.The overall density matrix of the network was 1.93±1.40,and the final fit of the core-periphery structure was 0.63,which indicated a good fit of the social network model. The set with the highest centrality was the community(degree centrality=0.99,closeness centrality=0.97,betweenness centrality=0.19).The community and hospital were at the core position in the social network structure, the family was in the sub-core position, while relatives, traditional media, friends, neighbors, new media, colleagues, and social organizations were in the peripheral position. Conclusions Senior patients(aged 50 and above)infected with HIV/AIDS who receive community follow-up management in Luzhou acquire social support mainly from community health service centers and various levels of medical institutions, followed by their families. The collaboration between government policies and community health services has played a crucial role, and future efforts should focus on reducing discrimination, expanding sources of social support, and continuing to strengthen cooperation between the government, community, and medical institutions.By improving social support for senior HIV/AIDS patients, their quality of life can be enhanced, and it also serves as a reference for other regions.
