Research Progress on the role of cellular autophagy in anti-HIV-1 infection
Cellular autophagy maintains homeostasis of the intracellular environment by degrading damaged organelles, excess proteins, and other cytoplasmic components. It exists in a variety of disease models, including infectious diseases.Autophagy serves as a natural antiviral mechanism against invading viruses, while viruses have also evolved anti-autophagy strategies to evade clearance.Given the biphasic and complex antiviral effects of autophagy, this article reviews the research progress on autophagy, its antiviral mechanisms, and the impact of autophagy on HIV-1 infection, providing new therapeutic targets and research directions for autophagy-based anti-HIV-1 infection.
