Correlation between expanded syphilis screening and reported cases in Hunan Province from 2013 to 2022
Objective To analyze the current status of expanded syphilis screening and its correlation between reported cases in Hunan Province from 2013 to 2022,so as to provide a scientific basis for the prevention and control of syphilis. Methods Average annual percent change(AAPC)was used to describe the expanded screening data and reported cases.Pearson correlation analysis was performed on the correlation between the two. Results From 2013 to 2022,the number of serological screening for syphilis in Hunan Province showed an upward trend(AAPC=29.07%,95%CI:15.91%-43.73%,P<0.001),the number of double-positive screenings showed an upward trend(AAPC=21.26%,95%CI:10.38%-33.22%,P<0.001),and the double-positive rate showed a downward trend(AAPC=-6.71%,95%CI:-8.83%--4.54%,P<0.001).Non-monitoring sites contributed 90.20%to the growth of serological screenings, and the general population contributed 94.77%to the growth of serological screenings. The number of serological screenings was positively correlated with the reported syphilis cases(r=0.80,P=0.006)and latent syphilis cases(r=0.88,P<0.001),and negatively correlated with the reported early dominant syphilis cases(r=-0.93,P<0.001).Conclusions The increase in the number of serological screenings for syphilis in Hunan Province is mainly related to the increase in serological screening at non-monitoring sites and among the general population. The increase in reported syphilis cases is closely related to the expanded screening strategy. It is necessary to use early dominant syphilis to reflect the trend of syphilis incidence when conducting epidemic assessments.
