Correlation analysis between aging expectation and quality of life among elderly HIV/AIDS patients
Objective This study aimed to investigate the current status of aging expectations and quality of life among older patients with HIV/AIDS and explore their correlations. Methods Convenience sampling was used for patients admitted to an infectious disease hospital in Chengdu. The survey was investigated through the Aging Expectation Questionnaire and Brief HIV/AIDS Quality of Life Scale.Pearson's correlation analysis was performed to examine the correlation between aging expectations and quality of life. Results A total of 112 older patients with HIV/AIDS were surveyed.Scores for aging expectations ranged from 15 to 48,with a mean score of 24.36±7.21.Significant differences were observed in aging expectation scores between sexes and educational levels(t=2.821,P=0.006;F=3.573,P=0.016).The total score for quality of life ranged from 57 to 118,with a mean score of 90.99±14.66.Pearson's correlation analysis showed a significant correlation between the total scores of aging expectations and quality of life in older patients with HIV/AIDS(r=0.476,P<0.001).The dimensions of physical and mental health, social relationships, environment, and personal beliefs were positively correlated with the dimensions of physical and mental health,as well as with the total scores of aging expectations. Conclusions The level of aging expectations was relatively low among older patients with HIV/AIDS,and these low levels were associated with a poorer quality of life. These findings highlight the importance of assessing aging expectations and quality of life and implementing effective interventions to promote healthy aging among older patients with HIV/AIDS.
