Meta-analysis of anxiety prevalence among men who have sex with men in China
Objective This study aimed to systematically evaluate the prevalence of anxiety among men who have sex with men(MSM)in China. Methods To collect relevant studies, computerized searches were conducted using the China Knowledge Network(CNKI),Wanfang Database,Wipro Database(VIP),China Biomedical Literature Database(CBM),PubMed,Web of Science,Cochrane Library,Embase,Scopus,CINAHL,and other Chinese and English databases.Chinese and English databases were searched from their establishment until February 2024.After independent literature retrieval, screening, data extraction, and quality assessment by two researchers,a meta-analysis was performed using Stata 15.0 software. Results A total of 38 articles with a combined sample size of 16 082 were included.Meta-analysis results showed that the detection rate of anxiety among Chinese MSM was 32.37%(95%CI:28.67%-36.07%).Subgroup analysis indicated that HIV infection status, age, study period, measurement tools, research region, and sample size had an impact on the detection rate of anxiety among Chinese MSM.Conclusions Current evidence suggests a high rate of anxiety among Chinese MSM.More attention should be paid to the psychological issues of MSM to enable early detection and interventions to reduce adverse outcomes.
