Current situation and needs of psychosexual health of secondary school students in Dali Prefecture
Objective To assess the current state of psychosexual health among secondary school students in Dali Prefecture and to identify their sexual education needs, thereby providing a basis for promoting psychosexual health in students from border areas. Methods From August to October 2023,a multi-stage stratified sampling method was employed to randomly select 18 secondary schools in Dali Prefecture.A self-administered questionnaire was utilized to conduct an anonymous questionnaire survey among the students at these schools. Results A total of 3 197 secondary school students were surveyed, yielding a total score of 127.23±14.14 on the Sexual Psychological Health Scale, with a mean score of 3.35±0.37.Statistically significant differences were observed in the mean scores of the psychosexual health subscales across different types of schools(P<0.01).Female students scored higher than male students on all subscales, with statistically significant differences(P<0.01).Additionally,96.56%(3 087/3 197)of the students expressed a desire to learn about physiological aspects of sexual health.School education and family education were recognized as the preferred forms of sexual education, with 62.50%(1 998)of students choosing school-based education and 58.87%(1 882)opting for family-based education. Conclusions The psychosexual health status of secondary school students in Dali Prefecture is at an intermediate level, with limited understanding of sexual adaptation-related knowledge, and their attitudes toward sexual issues need to be strengthened.Targeted, comprehensive, and systematic sexual health education should be implemented based on their characteristics and needs.
