Research progress on metabolic syndrome in HIV infected individuals
In the era following the introduction of combination antiretroviral therapy(cART),HIV infected individuals are experiencing longer lifespans.Alongside these extended lifespans, there is an increased risk of non-AIDS-defining illnesses(NAD),notably metabolic syndrome(MS),which severely affects the quality of life and prognosis.MS in individuals with HIV/AIDS is influenced by a complex interplay of factors related to HIV,sociodemographic characteristics, and behavioral patterns, making these individuals particularly vulnerable to developing MS.The pathophysiology of MS is complex and its underlying mechanisms in the HIV/AIDS population are not fully understood.Additionally, research into the epidemiological aspects, determinants, and clinical features of MS shows significant variability across different regions. This review consolidates current epidemiological trends, pathogenic mechanisms, clinical characteristics, and contributing factors of MS in HIV/AIDS patients. It aimed to support further research into early diagnostic methods and customized therapeutic strategies for managing MS in this population.
