Factors influencing the purchase of commercial homosexual services among men who have sex with men in Fuzhou City
Objective To investigate the characteristics and influencing factors of men who have sex with men(MSM)in Fuzhou City who purchase commercial homosexual services,to provide a scientific basis for prevention and intervention efforts within this population.Methods From March 2023 to March 2024,men aged ≥18 years old who had engaged in penetrative anal sex behavior in the past 6 months were recruited online.A multivariate logistic regression analysis was employed to assess the factors associated with the purchase of commercial homosexual services among MSM.Results A total of 1 772 MSM were surveyed,and 13.32%(236 individuals)reported having purchased commercial homosexual services.Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that factors increasing the likelihood of purchasing commercial homosexual services included age ≥25 years(OR=2.21,95%CI:1.51-3.24),first sexual experience at age ≤18 years(OR=1.69,95%CI:1.22-2.34),self-identifying as heterosexual(OR=2.45,95%CI:1.23-4.87),not seeking sexual partners through the internet(OR=1.71,95%CI:1.18-2.48),and having more than 10 male sexual partners in the past 6 months(OR=5.69,95%CI:3.90-8.28).Factors reducing the odds included residing locally for more than one year(OR=0.67,95%CI:0.45-0.97),having a college education or higher(OR=0.49,95%CI:0.32-0.76),performing the insertive role primarily during intercourse(OR=0.45,95%CI:0.30-0.68),alternating between the insertive and receptive roles(OR=0.50,95%CI:0.30-0.83),consistent condom use during heterosexual intercourse(OR=0.53,95%CI:0.32-0.88),no engagement in heterosexual intercourse(OR=0.27,95%CI:0.17-0.40),and abstinence from psychoactive substances(OR=0.47,95%CI:0.33-0.68).Conclusions The proportion of MSM who purchase commercial homosexual services in Fuzhou City is relatively high.Prevention efforts should focus on those with lower levels of educational,multiple sexual partners,heterosexual sex partners,and those who use psychoactive substances.Targeted education and promotion of condom use,along with raising awareness of the risks,are essential to reducing the transmission of HIV/AIDS.
