Willingness to use HIV PrEP and nPEP and associated factors among men who have sex with men in Chongqing City
Objective To analyze the willingness of men who have sex with men(MSM)in Chongqing City to use HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis(PrEP)and non-occupational post-exposure prophylaxis(nPEP),and to identify factors influencing their acceptance, thereby providing a scientific basis for developing service strategies. Methods MSM were recruited from the voluntary counseling clinic for AIDS at the Chongqing Center for Disease Control and Prevention using a snowball sampling method.Anonymous face-to-face questionnaires were used to gather data on demographic characteristics, behavioral information, and willingness to use PrEP and nPEP.The f test and multivariate logistic regression analysis were employed to assess factors associated with their willingness. Results The study surveyed 449 MSM,aged between 18 and 77 years, with an average age of 33.5士10.7 years.Of these,57.2%(257 individuals)expressed willingness to use PrEP,and 66.4%(298 individuals)were willing to use nPEP.Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that individuals willing to use nPEP(OR=31.860,95%CI:17.427-58.248)also showed a higher willingness to use PrEP.Additionally,MSM with at least a college education(OR=1.783,95%CI:1.121-2.836)and those adopting a receptive sexual role(OR=2.245,95%CI:1.276-3.952)demonstrated greater willingness to use nPEP.Conclusions The willingness to use PrEP and nPEP among MSM in Chongqing City is moderately low.Targeted educational campaigns tailored to the different educational levels and sexual roles of MSM are necessary to enhance individual risk awareness and willingness to use these prophylaxes.Emphasizing combined education on PrEP and nPEP could further improve their acceptance.
