Evolution of media discourse on AIDS in China's mainstream media from 2000 to 2023——A case study of the Health Newspaper
Objective To quantitatively analyze AIDS-related report texts in Health News from 2000 to 2023 and understand the evolution of media discourse on AIDS in China,aiming to enhance the policy communication of"Healthy China"through media discourse analysis.Methods Discourse analysis of AIDS news reports texts in Health News was conducted using word frequency analysis,extraction of emotional words,and Latent Dirichlet Allocation(LDA)topic modeling.Results The overall media landscape of AIDS in China highlights professionalism and humanity.At the textual discourse level,the content has shifted towards positive and optimistic vocabulary.At the level of discursive practice,seven major reporting themes constitute the macro propositions of AIDS coverage.At the level of social practice,the media discourse has evolved into a scenario where"cooperative"participation constructs a new pattern of"health communication".Conclusions In AIDS-related dissemination,mainstream media has increasingly adopted caring discourse and positive language,moving away from morally prescriptive discourse and negative speech.This aligns the evolution of media discourse with contemporary needs and social contexts.Media discourse on AIDS can further promote humanitarian care,safeguard the basic rights and dignity of patients,and continue to combat discrimination and prejudice against AIDS patients in the public sphere.
