Objective To analyze the investigation and handling of an outbreak in the welfare home for the dis-abled caused by the infection of severe acute respiratory syndrom coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)mutant strain XBB.1.9.1 and provide a reference for the prevention and control of COVID-19 in special collective institu-tions.Methods Using field epidemiological methods, investigation and analysis were carried out on the in-fection of SARS-CoV-2 among the staff and the disabled of the welfare home in May 2023.Real time fluores-cence quantitative RT-PCR(qRT-PCR)method was used to detect SARS-CoV-2 nucleic acid in oropharyn-geal swab samples collected on site.SARS-CoV-2 was sequenced by third generation sequencing platform, and SARS-CoV-2 variants were identified by Pangolin typing method. Results The epidemic lasted for 7 days(from May 7 to May 13,2023).Totally 75 cases of COVID-19 were reported, with a total incidence rate of 10.47%(75/716).All cases were mild or asymptomatic, with no reported severe cases or deaths. The SARS-CoV-2 was sequenced as Omicron XBB.1.9.1 and XBB.1.9.1.2.Conclusions The outbreak of COVID-19 is caused by XBB.1.9.1 variant transmitted by the community-infected welfare home staff.Pre-vention and control measures and medical treatment should be implemented timely and effectively to controlling the epidemic.
