Objective:To study the short term effect and long term survival rate of concurrent chemoradiotherapy and sequential chemoradiotherapy of advanced esophageal carcinoma. Methods:Al the 75 patients with esophageal carcinoma were randomly divided into two groups. The 39 cases in the concurrent chemoradiotherapy group:radiotherapy 2 Gy /time,the volume dose was 50-60 Gy:2 cycles of chemotherapy were given at the same time,2-4 cycles of chemotherapy were given after the radiotherapy. The 36 cases in the sequential chemoradiotherapy group:radiotherapy 2 Gy/time,the volume dose was 60-66 Gy;6 cycles of chemotherapy were given after the radiotherapy. The chemotherapy regimens of the two groups were the same:DDP 20 mg/m2,intervenous drop infusion,d1-5;taxol 135 mg/m2 ,intervenous drop infusion,d1 . Results:The effective rate of the concurrent chemoradiotherapy group was 82.1%,and that of the sequential chemoradiotherapy group was 63.9%( P<0.05).The 1-,2-,3-year survival rates of the concurrent chemoradiotherapy group were 73.6%/53.8% and 33.3%,those of the sequential chemoradiotherapy group were 52.8%/30.6% and16.7%( P<0.05).The toxicities of the two groups were could be tolerated. Conclusion:The short term effect of concurrent chemoradiotherapy and sequential chemoradiotherapy aregood for advanced esophageal carcinoma, and their toxicities can be tolerated;concurrent chemoradiotherapy has an advantage in the long term survival.
