OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effects of marine col agen peptides (MCPs) on wound healing in rats. METHODS:120 healthy male SD rats were divided into 5 groups, which were normal control (NC) group and 0.667, 2.0, 6.0, 12g/kg.bw MCPs groups. MCPs were oral y administered by gavage to rats in MCPs group from postoperation, and the control rats were given vehicle only. 120 rats underwent 2-cm length surgical ful-thickness incision (including the panniculus muscle and the peritoneum) simulating upper medial laparatomy and were chosed with surgical sutures. Necropsy was performed on postoperative day 3, 7 and 14. Eight animals per group were kil ed at each examined time points after incision. Wound strips were removed along incision including 5 mm from the edges and were used as experimental samples for histological analysis, tensile strength and hydroxyproline measurement. RESULTS:MCPs accelerated the wound healing, tensile strength and hydroxyproline expression. CONCLUSION:MCPs can enhance cutaneous wound healing in rats via nutrition support.
