Overweight and obesity are serious, large-scale, global, public health problems. Obesity has been rising as a common social phenomenon. Recent research has convinced us that rather than a cosmetic problem, obesity should be considered as a real disease which is a complex disorder of appetite regulation and energy metabolism. Actual y, obesity is caused by many factors such as heredity, environment and food contents. Induced and fol owed by complicated factors, obesity is particularly associated with diabetes mel itus II, coronary heart disease, and certain forms of cancer and so on. This review provides a comprehensive insight into causes of obesity, the criteria for obesity, and the dangers of obesity. Final y, we achieve a reasonable weight control, and reduce obesity and related diseases incidence.
