Viscoelastic damper is a kind of efficient device for suppressing vibration and dissipating energy.The principle about suppressing vibration and dissipating energy and the properties of viscoelastic damper is studied in this paper.Two kinds of layout method of viscoelastic damper are given.Numerical examples are presented to ansys the seismic response of three kinds of situation. The feasibility of the seismic performance enhancement by adding viscoelastic damper to structures is demonstrated.The effects of suppressing vibration for two kinds of layout method of viscoelastic damper are compared.
