Clinical therapeutic effects of prosthodontics in elderly patients
Objective To analyze the influencing factors of the long-term efficacy of prosthodontics in elderly patients, and summarize treatment management strategies,in order to improve clinical treatment effect. Methods A total of 162 elderly patients with oral diseases treated with prosthodontics at Gaotang County People's Hospital from January 2014 to July 2015 were selected as the research objects,to evaluate the health indicators of adjacent teeth around the dental prosthesis before treatment, the first follow-up one week after treatment and 12 months after treatment.Patients with health problems were included in the observation group, while those without problems were included in the control group, the gingival health indicators around the restoration before and after treatment were observed and influencing factors were analyzed. Results Among the 162 patients,no repair failure was observed.Within 12 months after surgery,4 new cases of chronic periodontitis,12 cases of gingival bleeding,6 cases of loose prostheses,2 cases of loss of prostheses,1 case of oral infection and 4 cases of tooth discoloration occurred,21 patients with multiple problems. The PLI,BI,PD and CAL at 12 months after surgery were lower than those before surgery, and those at 1 week after surgery were lower than those at 12 months after surgery,at 12 months after surgery, the bone mass around the adjacent teeth of the prosthesis was lower than that at 1 week after surgery, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).The proportion of preoperative chronic periodontitis, smoking, preference for spicy and thick flavors, gastroesophageal reflux disease in the observation group were higher than those in the control group, the proportion of high school education or above was lower than that in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion The clinical treatment effect of oral restoration for elderly patients was certain. In the short term, missing teeth could be quickly repaired and some functions could be restored. However, over time, oral problems such as periodontitis might occur. The occurrence of oral problems was related to bad lifestyle habits, chronic periodontitis and treatment techniques. It was necessary to strengthen the management of medical orders and conduct follow-up examinations,in order to ensure the dental health of elderly patients.
