On Several Issues Related to the Handling of Historical References in Local Records Compilation-A Case Study of the Compilation of Zhejiang General Records-Seawalls Special Records
Historical references selected for local records compilation must be true,accurate,representative,and authoritative.When examining historical references for local records compilation,the authors found some of the local records from ancient periods had great discrepancies among recordings of the same event and hard to reach a decision to include them in or not when it came to aspects such as data,person's names involved in events,official titles,place names,chronological years,and editions of historical references.We now take the compilation of Zhejiang General Records-Seawalls Special Records as an example.Our specific approaches to the handling of historical references are to try our best to trace the origins of historical references.In terms of the tracing of the origins of person's names,we try to trace and find local records from the person's hometown.In terms of quotations of official titles,we try to search for the transformation of the person's official titles.In terms of historical evolution of place names,we try to search for the succession and transformation of place names.In terms of recording persons by associated events,we try to clarify the relationship between persons and events.
