On the Scientific Values of Six Dynasties"Strange Matters Records"
During the Six Dynasties period,people accumulated a great deal of knowledge of natural sciences in the course of practical activities in the frontier regions.Various kinds of works on science and technology were also massively created,building up the knowledge-based cognition of the"heartland"on"frontier regions".Among which the"strange matters records"of the Six Dynasties were most representative,jumping out of the observation method of arithmetic and exegesis thinking modes,and opening up the scientific observation mode.Six Dynasties"strange matters records"undertook the timely mission of introducing newly added knowledge of natural sciences during the mid-ancient period.This article expounds on the scientific value of Six Dynasties"strange matters records"from four aspects,i.e.recording geographical distribution pattern of newly discovered organisms,recording biological varieties of newly discovered organisms,clear knowledge categorization thinking,and the advanced scientific cognition level.Finally,by going through the inheritance and spreading of knowledge recorded in Six Dynasties"strange matters records"in later generations,the author surveyed the special contributions of these writings on ancient Chinese natural history.
