Vassal Kings in Local Records:The Addition and Evolution of the Fiefdom Category in Various Ming Dynasty Henan Fu Records
The compilation of various fu records in Ming Dynasty Henan was influenced by The Unified Records and provincial records, recording the forces of the vassal kings in the governed territory with the involvement of the vassal forces, specifically presenting these records in local records'style or categories. These fu records adapted to local conditions and selected three types of approaches on the issue of narration of vassal forces,i.e.the explicit approach set up categories of fiefdom, the shelving approach made no recordings, and the ambiguous approach selected a transitional form like fiefdom records, tables, vassal kings'mansions or manors records. The fiefdom category is the representation of local records compilation power and influence from the central government to various levels of local authorities. Its appearances in local records of the fiefdom provinces have universality to a certain extent. The style creation was also a noticeable change in the compilation process of Ming Dynasty local records.
