Examinations and Comments on Chaohua Records Manuscripts
The three-volume Chaohua Records manuscripts of Qing Dynasty in the collection of Beijing Normal University Library was compiled by Qian Jiushao from Chaohua,Mi County,Henan Province on the 34th year of the Reign of Qianlong, and was divided into sections on topics such as mountains and rivers(including produces),ancient sites, friendly conducts, temporary residents(including Buddhist and Taoist monks),and arts and literature. In terms of the nature of this work,Beijing Normal University Library Good Editions of Ancient Books Titles Catalogue and China Ancient Books General Bibliography treat it as temple records, which is not accurate.Through analysis and survey of its contents,we can learn that it is the only township records of Henan province during Ming and Qing Dynasty now in existence, which records in detail information such as scenic spots, produces, personages, and poems and essays in Chaohua region, preserves rich local historical references, and presents important historical reference value.
