On the Reconstruction and Restoration of Wang Yangming Historical Literature in Local Records
In local records,Wang Yangming historical literature is often reconstruct when recorded to achieve the aim of glorifying the local records.Some compilers added or changed place names in the titles of Wang Yangming historical literature to display the birth place of those texts;some deleted the contents of Wang Yangming historical literature to avoid regional features of the original texts.The differences between historical literature included in local records and those recorded in separate collections of Wang Yangming,can reflect the attitudes and tactics on the part of disciples of Wang Yangming in dealing with his historical literature.Wang Yangming's disciples,when compiling texts of poems,often pieced together poems with close times of writing and similar contents;when dealing with prefaces,they intentionally selected different manuscripts at different stages of writing according to the contents,and even worked on and improved the textual contents.During the process of compiling Wang Yangming separate collections in all previous occasions,the people in charge often put the emphasis on adjustments of the order of chapters and sections,very seldomly examined the specific textual contents.Historical references collected in local records can restore the original textual state of Wang Yangming literature,e.g.revealing and collating the omissions and errors in historical references in separate collections,restoring the original textual contents,reconsidering and deciding on the copyrights of collections of lost texts of Wang Yangming,and searching for the true authors of the texts.
