Dai Zhen wrote Waters and Lands Records,but did not finish the book.There are cases of quotes in historical literature from the book Waters and Lands Records Pictorial Notes,but this book title was not seen in historical references recording Dai Zhen's life and works,and not mentioned in researches on Dai Zhen in the academic circle.Yet the contents of this book were quoted multiple times in Dai Zhen deleted and corrected manuscripts of Zhili Rivers and Canals Book.Fenzhou Fu Records and Fenyang County Records compiled by Dai Zhen also quoted from this book,and the academic views in this book also conformed with those of Dai Zhen's.Most importantly,parts of the contents of Waters and Lands Records Pictorial Notes are basically the same with Waters and Lands Records.From this,we can determine that the book was also written by Dai Zhen,and was a set of Waters and Lands Records manuscripts in process.The determination of this fact has important academic significance for further pushing forward the sorting and research work on Dai Zhen's life and works,for clarification of the process and form of writing of Waters and Lands Records,and for solution of the Zhili Rivers and Canals Book case that attracted widespread academic attention and participation since the Reign of Jiaqing of Qing Dynasty.
