Characteristics and Process Traits of Yixing Junshanwu Clay Ore
Clay ore is an important mineral resource used in the production of purple clay teapots;however,not all clay ores possess such characteristics.In conducting the survey and assessment of clay ore resources in Dingshu-Zhangzhu area of Yixing city,Jiangsu Province,the authors collected 11 representative samples.Through the examination of the ore's visual features,chemical analysis,X-ray diffraction analysis,physical property tests,and technical experiments,it was determined that 7 of the samples met the requirements for plasticity,shrinkage rate,water absorption rate,sintering temperature,and firing temperature necessary for purple clay production.Primarily focusing on the sample labeled as W11,following the traditional crafting process for purple clay finished clay,a production process utilizing plastic(manual)shaping techniques was employed to create purple clay products.This process was used to craft purple clay teapots.Results from performance tests on the physical products indicated that the leaching levels of heavy metals and water absorption rates of the finished products both adhered to relevant national standards.This study concludes that Junshanwu clay ore meets the requirements as raw material for purple clay products,highlighting its significance as an essential mineral resource.
