Application of Soluble Dietary Fiber and Probiotics in Treatment of Enteral Nutrition-Associated Diarrhea in Elderly Patients
Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of soluble dietary fiber combined with probiotics in the treatment of enteral nutrition-associated diarrhea(ENAD)in elderly patients. Methods Total 72 elderly patients with ENAD admitted to our hospital from September 2021 to September 2023 were divided into control group and observation group by random number table method,36 cases in each group. The control group was treated with montmorillonite powder, and the observation group was treated with solu-ble dietary fiber and probiotics on the basis of the control group. The daily frequency of defecation, overall therapeutic effect, treatment course and adverse reactions were compared between the two groups on the 3rd,5th and 7th day of treatment. Results The daily frequency of defecation in the observation group was lower than that in the control group on the 3rd and 5th day of treatment,P<0.05.There was no sig-nificant difference in the daily frequency of defecation between the two groups on the 7th day of treatment(P>0.05).On the 7th day of treatment, the total effective rate of the observation group(100%)was slightly higher than that of the control group(94.44%),but the difference was not statistically signifi-cant,P>0.05.The treatment course of the observation group[(4.52±0.46)d]was significantly shor-ter than that of the control group[(5.99±0.77)d],P<0.05.During treatment, the incidence of adverse reactions in the observation group(2.78%)was significantly lower than that in the control group(16.67%),P<0.05.Conclusion Compared with conventional treatment of montmorillonite powder, soluble dietary fiber combined with probiotics in the treatment of ENAD in elderly patients can improve the clinical efficacy, with faster action, shorter course of treatment, and fewer adverse reactions, thereby having higher clinical application value.
