Correlation Between Intestinal Flora Distribution and Serum Levels of TNF-a and IL-6 in Patients with Ulcerative Colitis
Objective To investigate the characteristics of intestinal flora distribution in patients with ul-cerative colitis(UC)and its correlation with serum levels of tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α)and interleu-kin-6(IL-6).Methods A total of 96 newly diagnosed UC patients admitted to our hospital from Febru-ary 2023 to February 2024 were divided into degree 1 group(31 cases),degree Ⅱ group(42 cases)and degree Ⅲ group(23 cases)according to the degree of intestinal flora disorder. At the same time, total 96 healthy subjects(healthy group)were selected for control. The intestinal flora, serum TNF-α and IL-6 levels of all subjects were detected, and the differences among all groups were compared. The correlation between intestinal flora and serum TNF-α and IL-6 was analyzed by Pearson correlation test. Results Compared with the healthy control group, the contents of enterococcus faecalis and Escherichia coli in the UC group were significantly increased, while the contents of lactobacillus and bifidobacterium were signifi-cantly decreased(P<0.05).With the aggravation of flora imbalance, the contents of intestinal lactoba-cillus and bifidobacterium in UC patients were significantly decreased, while the contents of intestinal enterococcus faecalis and Escherichia coli were significantly increased(P<0.05).In terms of serum inde-xes,the serum levels of TNF-α and IL-6 in UC patients were significantly increased with severity of bacte-rial imbalance, and the differences between the two groups were statistically significant(P<0.05).Ac-cording to Pearson correlation test, the contents of intestinal lactobacillus and bifidobacterium in UC pa-tients were negatively correlated with TNF-α and IL-6(P<0.05).The contents of enterococcus faecalis and Escherichia coli were positively correlated with TNF-α and IL-6(P<0.05).Conclusion The dis-tribution of intestinal flora in UC patients is related to the levels of inflammatory cytokines TNF-α and IL-6,and their interaction may play a role in the occurrence and development of UC.Monitoring the serum levels of TNF-α and IL-6 has certain value in predicting the degree of intestinal flora imbalance in UC.
