Fracture Performances of Epoxy Resin Asphalt Mixes with Different Asphalt Volume Fractions
Using AH-70 conventional asphalt, SBS modified asphalt, epoxy resin asphalt with four kinds of asphalt volume fractions, i.e. 0. 250, 0. 400, 0. 500 and 0. 571, mix specimen model was made, three-point bending contrast tests with the notched semi-circular specimens were performed under -25 ℃, -15 ℃, -5 ℃ and 5 ℃. Micro-structure analyses of phase of epoxy resin asphalt were observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM). Test results show that the variations of fracture performances with notch depths of epoxy resin asphalt mixes are consistent with those of AH-70 conventional asphalt mixes and SBS modified asphalt mixes. The fracture performances of epoxy resin asphalt mixes which exceed the AH-70 conventional asphalt mixes obviously decrease with the increase of asphalt volume fraction when the asphalt volume fraction surpasses 0. 400. The fracture performance of SBS modified asphalt mixes is similar to that of the epoxy resin asphalt mixes with the asphalt volume fraction of 0. 500. Relations between fracture performances and temperatures exist similar tendency for epoxy resin asphalt mixes and AH-70 conventional asphalt mixes with the asphalt volume fraction of 0. 571. SEM photos and fracture mechanism analysis show that the critical asphalt volume fraction of epoxy resin asphalt is 0. 500.
