This article proposes a method of using variable mode decomposition to identify the main moving components that generate noise in elevators,in response to the difficulty in identifying the source of elevator noise. In the experimental analysis section of the article, the main focus is on the different frequencies of the rotating components of the elevator, such as the traction wheel, reverse rope wheel, and speed limiter. The noise signals collected by the signal acquisition card are decomposed into variable mode decomposition, and the complex noise signals are decomposed into multiple single noise sub signals. Then, the sub signals are analyzed in frequency domain. Finally, the frequency domain spectrum of the component signal is compared with the relevant rotational frequencies of the moving components of the elevator used in the experiment to identify noise sub signals with similar frequencies and larger amplitudes. This signal with larger amplitudes is the main source of noise, guiding elevator maintenance personnel to accurately identify the main source components of elevator noise.
