This article systematically reviews the relevant regulations and standards for inspection and testing of buried steel oil and gas pipelines, and elaborates in detail on the inspection requirements, methods, equipment, implementation precautions, and evaluation criteria for six external inspection items, including macroscopic inspection, laying environment investigation,anti-corrosion layer inspection, cathodic protection system testing, crossing section inspection, and excavation direct inspection.Based on the author's years of practical testing engineering experience, examples are given to illustrate the problems that may be discovered in various testing projects, and typical defects discovered in testing practice are demonstrated. This can provide reference for the construction, operation, inspection, testing, and maintenance personnel of buried steel oil and gas pipelines,in order to jointly ensure the safe and stable operation of the oil and gas pipeline network.
