To improve the efficiency of the inspection and the accuracy of corrosion evaluation for storage tanks, the damage pattern recognition, acoustic emission inspection and off-line inspection of a storage tank administered by an oil field company were verified and evaluated. The results showed that unreasonable structure easily led to corrosion under insulation and soil corrosion, and microbial corrosion and acid(sulfur-containing)sewage corrosion easily occurred inside the tank.Acoustic emission inspection can obtain the corrosion status of the bottom plate and the area where corrosion may occur.Spatial data scanning can indirectly obtain the environmental distribution of corrosion caused by local deformation. Therefore, acoustic emission detection and spatial data scanning can improve the efficiency and accuracy of off-line inspection.
