Polyethylene(PE)gas pipelines will gradually age with the increase of laying time,so attention should be paid to the performance changes and safety evaluation of the pipelines after aging.Based on research literature and standards both domestically and internationally, this paper introduces the physical, chemical, and mechanical performance testing of aged pipelines,as well as nonlinear ultrasonic non-destructive testing methods.Based on this,a comparative analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of four methods for predicting the lifespan of PE pipelines is conducted, and a brief description of the evaluation method for the degree of PE pipeline aging is provided. The results indicate that current research at home and abroad mainly focuses on artificial accelerated aging tests, aging performance testing, and life prediction. However, there is relatively little research on non-destructive testing methods and comprehensive evaluation methods for aging degree.Exploring the comprehensive use of nonlinear ultrasound and micro damage performance testing to evaluate the degree of aging of PE pipelines has broad application prospects in the detection and evaluation of aging in buried gas pipelines.
