Abstract

Scavenger receptors(SRs)are functionally diverse proteins expressed on myeloid cells.SRs not only have the ability to clear modified lipoproteins, recognize and bind ligands, but also play an important role in biological processes as one of the innate pattern recognition receptors. Therefore,SRs not only play a key role in maintaining host homeostasis, but also are involved in the pathogenesis of many diseases.Rheumatoid arthritis(RA)is characterized by inflammatory cell infiltration and the development of joint synovitis. The most prominent cell of synovitis is macrophages.Activated macrophages are capable of producing a variety of cytokines, ultimately leading to severe destruction of cartilage and bone.Recent studies have found that SR-A,as one of the classifications of SRs,plays a key role in the pathogenesis of RA.This article reviews the role of SR-A in RA and its application research progress,in order to provide new ideas and methods for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of RA.
