Objective To explore the distribution of systemic and local muscle mass in Han and Hui elderly people in Nanyang,and to accumulate demographic data of sarcopenia.Methods The whole body and local muscle mass of people over 60-year old in Nanyang was measured by bioelectrical impedance method,and statistically processed.Results Thetotal body muscle mass and local muscle mass of elderly male in Nanyang area decreased with age,especially in the group over 80 years old.The aging decrease of muscle mass was mainly manifested in the trunk.The total and local muscle mass of male was greater than that of female,The muscle mass of the right upper limb was greater than that of the left upper limb.The muscle mass of right upper limb and both lower limbs in urban men and women were higher than that in rural areas.The total body muscle mass and upper limb muscle mass of Hui nationality were higher than those of Han nationality.The incidence of sarcopenia was 24.86%in males and 20.00%in females,which was higher in rural areas than in urban areas.Conclusion There are big differences in the body and local muscle mass of the elderly in Nanyang,gender differences and age differences.The occurrence rate of sarcopenia is relatively high,especially in the group over 80 years old and the rural group.Health assessment and prevention of related diseases should be strengthened.
