This paper reviews the research methods of water price affordability and the water price level of large and medium-sized cities in China and abroad,and uses the variable coefficient double logarithmic model to analyze the economic and psychological affordability of residents'domestic water supply in Shanghai,Wuhan,Chongqing,Wuhu and Jiujiang in the Yangtze River Economic Belt from 2012 to 2022.The results show that the overall level of domestic water charges of residents in typical cities in the Yangtze River Economic Belt is low,and the elasticity of water price and income of residents is low,and there is some room for price adjustment,but shall consider psychological factors such as low water quality satisfaction,rising living pressure,and lack of communication.It is recommended to gradually raise the price level in a timely and appropriate manner,improve the cost distribution,provide high-quality and low-cost services through market opening and competition,and improve the social assistance system to reduce the burden on low-income groups.
